Google 411

Google Voice Local Search is Google’s experimental service to make local-business search accessible over the phone. And it’s free. Google doesn’t charge you a thing for the call or for connecting you to the business. Regular phone charges may apply, based on your telephone service provider.

To try this service, just dial 1-800-GOOG-411 (1-800-466-4411) from any phone.

Wow, that’s a fast printer

New inkjet printer technology that analysts believe will revolutionize the imaging industry was unveiled today by secretive Silverbrook Research. The company has released astounding videos of desktop, photo and wide-format printers that print pages and photos 5 to 10 times faster than products from current printer market leaders HP, Canon, Epson and Lexmark. You can read the entire article and watch the amazing video here.

Why people become music pirates

This is a great story written by a guy named Jarrett that makes great points. He basically explains how it is so hard and frustrating to legally buy and enjoy music. I agree with the overall theme of the article. The recording industry makes piracy tempting just for the simple fact that people want to simply enjoy music and purchasing it is an extreme hassle.

Great online games

Check out this great site called Necromanthus. They have flash and shockwave games. Ok nothing new there but they have games like Quake and Half-Life that run completely in your web browser. How cool is that. I have also added a permanent link to the site under games in my link menu. Have fun!

Bill Gates discusses Vista on Daily Show

Bill Gates sat down with Jon Stewart of the Daily Show for an interview regarding the release of Vista. It’s nothing to exciting but pretty funny to watch. I was hoping Jon would put Bill on more of a hot seat. Oh well….

Try Windows Vista

If you would like to see and experience Windows Vista but not quite ready to commit (I understand) you can do so at this site. You can also give the new Office 2007 a try as well. A great way to see what it’s all about easily.

Daylight saving time and your server

Well if you run Windows 2000 server you may want to take notice. Microsoft has stated that they will not be offering a patch for the new US Daylight Saving Time for Windows 2000 and earlier. Only customers with an extended support agreement can get a Hotfix from Microsoft. Never fear though. IntelliAdmin has an unofficial patch that will correct the problem using information taken from a Microsoft KB article. They have two versions and one of them allows you to remotely update machines on your network. Very nice. Check out some of their other applications while you’re there. They have utilities to enable remote desktop remotely on a machine and to remotely disable USB and CDROM drives. Good stuff.

Verizon can’t add

This one is funny as can be and just as embarrassing. It seems Verizon and most of the people working there are unable to distinguish the difference between .002 cents and .002 dollars. You can read the article here about a guy who was quoted the .002 cent rate for data service but was billed at .002 dollars. You can listen to a recording here of him trying to explain it to several people at Verizon and none of them ever get it. We certainly need to improve math in our schools, no question about it.
